Entry #9 Mental Health Part 2

 In a previous blog post I talked about mental health. I've decided to bring this topic back up again because I received a request, but with a twist!  In this blog post the coping skills will be more focused towards men. What are copping skills? Coping skills are tasks to calm or distract the mind. Just like females, men experience anxiety, stress, and frustration. Everyone (No matter the gender) needs to have a couple escape routes or coping skills to help them calm down.  The first coping skill is running, this is a very common coping skill because you can basically do it anywhere!  Running is a great coping skill because your mind is focused on your legs, rather then the stressors of life. Running is also very good for you, its known to improve memory, decrease illnesses, and improve sleep.  Now a days it’s hard to have a stay at home parent. That’s why so many families look to child care for help. Child care let’s parents finish there daily tasks knowing their child is being watched by professionals. Parents drop off their kids never expecting anything bad to happen. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that the neglect and death rate is on the rise.  The scary fact about daycares is that most care takers are not properly trained in childhood health and safety. According to  CBS News Reports  out of nearly 2,000 cases of SIDS in 11 states, 20% of those deaths happened in a daycare. SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the unexplained death, usually during sleep, of a healthy baby less then one year old.  It’s hard to imagine a caregiver hurting a child, but it does happen.  What are your thoughts on portion control? Portion control is the correct serving size for different foods and beverages. Portions have gradually grown larger and larger over the years. Most people don’t know how to properly portion there food, which is why obesity is the leading health problem in pediatrics. The reason why people don’t know how to properly portion there food, is because they were never taught.  Here consumers can find a couple strategies that can be used to help cut back on those calories.  First start by drinking a glass of water when your hungry. Hunger and thirst often get confused as the same feeling. While you may feel hungry, you might just be thirsty.  Second, try filling up your plate with less food, you can always go back for seconds if your still hungry. Lastly, when your eating, just eat! Most people get in the habit of watching tv, playing on there phone, or doing homework while eating. Sit and enjoy one meal with your family! ...
